Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) 27, Green Bay Packers (5-4) 13
Sunday November 10th 2013 (at Green Bay)
Seneca Wallace made Packers history against Philadelphia, becoming the first black quarterback to start a game for the franchise. Unfortunately, he was knocked out of the game, and former Badger Scott Tolzien became the third Packer quarterback of the season.
NOTE: The first black quarterback in Packer history? Charlie “Choo Choo” Brackins played in 1955 for Green Bay. Drafted in the 16th round of the 1955 draft by the Packers out of Prairie View A&M, where he was a four-year starter and led his team to 33 victories in 37 games. He was a big tall passer at 6'-2" and 205 lbs. Brackins became the fourth black quarterback to play in an NFL game. He played in the closing minutes for the Green Bay Packers in a blowout game against the Cleveland Browns on October 23,1955. Green Bay won the game 41-10 and Brackins had two incompletions. His career only lasted seven games and the Packers placed him on waivers after he had broken curfew before a game in Chicago and other unnamed problems. After the “violations,” Brackins never got a chance to return to the NFL. He had tryouts, mostly as a defensive back, but never caught on again and injured his knee before leaving the game. He died of cancer in 1990 at the age of 58. The only other black quarterback to throw a pass in an official game - Willie Gillus (who completed 2 of 5 passes for 28 yards in a strike replacement game against Philadelphia on November 18th 1987. Green Bay won 16-10)
(GREEN BAY) - Nick Foles threw for 228 yards with three touchdowns and Riley Cooper caught three passes for 102 yards with two scores, as the Philadelphia Eagles dispatched the Green Bay Packers, 27-13, at Lambeau Field. Green Bay began life without Aaron Rodgers, who is sidelined with a broken collarbone suffered in Monday's loss to Chicago, and also lost Seneca Wallace to a groin injury on Sunday after one series. Scott Tolzien, signed to the active roster from the practice squad just this week, threw a pair of interceptions and finished 24-of-39 for 280 yards with a touchdown in the loss. Foles connected with Cooper for touchdown passes of 45 and 32 yards in the third quarter, which gave the Eagles breathing room and extended their 10-3 halftime lead. Philadelphia scored on its first three possessions of the second half and kept the ball for the final 9:32 of the game after the Packers turned it over on downs deep in Eagles territory early in the fourth quarter. Green Bay has lost two straight following a four-game winning streak and fell one game behind Detroit for the lead in the NFC North. The Lions beat the Bears on Sunday, 21-19. NOTES: Green Bay has now lost two straight at Lambeau Field following a 10-game home winning streak ... Foles has thrown for 16 TDs this season and committed his first turnover of 2013 with the fumble in the fourth quarter. He has yet to throw an interception ... Philadelphia averages 28 points when Foles starts ... Green Bay was held under 20 points for just the second time this season. They are 1-1 in those contests.
