Carolina Panthers (5-7) 31, Green Bay Packers (5-7) 14
Monday November 27th 2000 (at Carolina)
(CAROLINA) - The Packers were all but drummed out of playoff contention with a resounding loss to the better-prepared Panthers on Monday Night Football. This was the Packers' most shoddy performance under Mike Sherman, whose team fell to 1-5 on the road and 5-7 overall. A steady stream of missed tackles, including several key ones by safety Darren Sharper, and slipshod coverage, frequently by Tyrone Williams, were far too much for a misfiring offense to overcome. The Packers dropped about half a dozen passes. Brett Favre was sacked three times and threw three interceptions. After committing merely four turnovers in the previous five games, the Packers had five, including a critical fumble by Antonio Freeman to open the second half. Panthers QB Steve Beuerlein threw 3 touchdown passes, and first-year RB Brad Hoover rushed for 117 yards in the offensive attack that matched the highest output allowed by Green Bay this season. Entering the game, all eyes were fixed upon DE Reggie White, who was facing his former team for the first time since coming out of a one-year retirement. But Green Bay's offensive line - particularly rookie RT Mark Tauscher - kept the future Hall of Fame defensive lineman in check for most of the game. White was not credited with a sack or a tackle in the Panthers victory.
